A highly drug-resistant strain of typhoid is spreading in Pakistan, killing at least one person and affecting around 850 others. It was first identified in November 2016 in Hyderabad but has since spread to other parts of the country. Researchers at the Aga Khan University in collaboration with the provincial government of Sindh launched an emergency vaccination programme to contain the current outbreak of typhoid.
