According to Karachi Traffic Police data, 90 people die in road accidents in Karachi every month. Most of those killed and injured in road traffic accidents are motorcyclists, who are occasionally hit by the city's heavy traffic, including dumpers, tankers and trailers. According to a study by the Aga Khan University, most accident victims are between the ages of 30 and 40 years, who are the backbone (financially) of their families. Dr Rashid Jamma, a research surgeon at Aga Khan University, says that in the event of an accident, the cost of unemployment for the victim, the cost of his medical care, the worries of the family, etc. all add up to a huge burden.
