East Africa’s healthcare sector has been on a transformative journey, driven by a decentralised government system and expanding infrastructure. The region is poised to become a top destination for medical tourism, tapping into its potential to offer world-class healthcare services to both local and international patients. In a recent interview on CNBC Africa, Rashid Khalani, CEO of Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya, discussed the advancements, opportunities, challenges, and collaborative efforts needed to unlock East Africa’s potential as a premier medical tourism destination. Khalani highlighted the strengths and opportunities that Kenya and the region possess in becoming a hub for medical tourism.
