The National Disaster Management Authority, in collaboration with the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), has launched a volunteer campaign in Kabul; the goal of this programme is to strengthen people's capacities against natural disasters and respond quickly and effectively to crises. According to officials, these volunteer teams will play a role in the areas of rapid information dissemination, raising public awareness, reducing losses and providing first aid. Dr Najmuddin Najm, CEO of Aga Khan Foundation remarked: “This initiative is very important for rapid response and we hope it will become a successful model for other provinces.” After Kabul, the programme is to be expanded to other provinces and similar volunteer teams will be formed nationwide.
