The GBAO, Gorno-Badakshan, is located in the Pamir Mountains and makes up nearly half of the land area of Tajikistan. In order to get clean water, people have to either walk for hours every day or pay high fees to service providers who deliver water by vehicles. The Pamir water project, which has been supported from Finland's development cooperation funds, has already improved the living conditions of thousands of Pamiris, especially women and children. It was implemented during 2015-2017 in cooperation with the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) and its local partners, together with the local communities and government authorities in the GBAO.
