The Aga Khan Maternal and Child Care Centre (AKMCCC) in Hyderabad marked World Diabetes Day with a community-focused awareness session and walk, highlighting the growing burden of diabetes and the importance of early detection and proper management. The event, themed “Live well with Diabetes-track. Treat. Thrive,” brought together community members, patients, and healthcare professionals to emphasise the need for collective action against diabetes. According to experts, diabetes affects more than one in four adults in Pakistan, often without their knowledge. Dr Syed Mairajuddin Shah, Chief Operating Officer, Off-Campus Hospitals at the Aga Khan University Hospital, Pakistan, stressed the urgency of collective health action. “Diabetes is not just a medical condition; it is a public health challenge that affects families, quality of life, and future generations,” he said. “By educating our communities and providing accessible screenings, we are taking meaningful steps toward preventing complications and empowering people to live healthier lives.”
