AKDN | Kenya
AKDN has worked in Kenya for over a century, beginning with education and health programmes. We improve the quality of life for Kenyan communities through meeting basic needs, sharing knowledge and providing opportunities for growth. We signed an Agreement of Cooperation for Development with the Kenyan Government in 1996, creating an enabling framework for our activities.
We have worked in over 35 counties, reaching over 27 million Kenyans through health interventions and over a million students through our school improvement programmes.

Our ECD programmes provide a positive and early start for children. The Aga Khan Education Service, Kenya operates four nursery schools, while AKF’s Madrasa Early Childhood Programme supports the creation of locally-owned early childhood centres.

We have provided education in Kenya for over a century. We run schools, educate nurses, specialist physicians, educators, journalists and communicators, support education policy and undertake research on improving learning outcomes.

Our health facilities in Kenya receive over a million patient visits per year
We operate three hospitals and almost 80 linked health centres. Our community-level work includes training health workers and offering maternal and child health services. We offer professional development for nurses and postgraduate training for specialist physicians.
