Our activities span humanitarian assistance, healthcare and sanitation provision, microfinance, educational support, agriculture and small business strengthening, civil society support and cultural restoration. In 2025, the Ismaili Imamat pledged €100 million for Syria’s development.
In the last five years we have:
- supported 500,000 people with emergency food and nutrition assistance;
- provided critical health and water and sanitation services for a million people;
- served 800,000 people through civil society interventions, enabling local ownership and social cohesion; and
- supported 50,000 farmers to enhance their food security, and climate and economic resilience.

Agriculture and Food Security

In 2025, the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) worked with around 12,000 farmers in Syria
AKF helps to improve farmers’ access to basic inputs, supports them to build resilience through cooperative models, and provides technical assistance and new technologies.
Cultural Development
277
The Aga Khan Trust for Culture has restored 277 shops in the souks of Aleppo, returning them to their owners.
AKTC has assisted with the restoration of three citadels and their surrounding areas; revitalising historic cities and markets, encouraging visitors and investing in urban planning and rehabilitation to catalyse further sustainable development.
Disaster Preparedness and Response

The Aga Khan Agency for Habitat has provided disaster management training, fire extinguishers and first aid kits for over 150 schools
AKDN has provided humanitarian assistance throughout the recent turmoil, delivering food, medicine and farming inputs, supporting new mothers and children, and training teams to respond to natural hazards.
Early Childhood Development

In 2025, AKF's ECD programme reached around 4,700 children in Syria
Some of our early childhood development activities have continued during the crises, giving children a safe learning space. We have also helped to establish a national ECD networking group, which supports teachers and caregivers.
Education

In 2025, AKF's education programme reached around 8,300 learners in Syria
AKF works with young Syrians who are out of school, particularly girls, through preschools, youth clubs and vocational courses. In 2025 it reached 8,288 learners and trained more than 430 teachers and school heads.
Habitat

In 2025, communities in Syria planted more than 200,000 trees with AKDN
AKDN works with communities across Syria to supply water, install solar power, plant trees, revive earth building and improve waste collection. In 2025 it installed almost four megawatts of solar capacity.
Health
1 million
From 2020-2025, AKDN provided critical health and water and sanitation services for a million people in Syria
AKDN supports public health systems, works in community health and builds capacity for search, rescue and first aid. In 2025, mobile teams delivered almost 122,000 public health, mental health, and vaccination services.
