AKDN has worked with the Government of Singapore and private institutions in Singapore on several cultural and social projects. These range from the provision of dental care at the Bamyan Provincial Hospital in Afghanistan (funded and operated by AKDN) to seminars on arts and architecture in Singapore itself.
His Highness the Aga Khan
Preface to Treasures of the Aga Khan Museum: Architecture in Islamic Arts Exhibition Catalogue, 2011
A 2024 symposium at the Asian Civilisations Museum, showcasing collaboration between the Aga Khan Trust for Culture, WOHA Architects, Ismaili CIVIC, and local ecological innovators, demonstrated how cities can harmonise with nature while preserving their unique cultural identities. Dr Nirmal Kishnani, moderating, highlighted Singapore’s unique position as a living laboratory for integrating culture, community and ecology into urban planning.
In 2012, a two-day Aga Khan Award for Architecture seminar on planning practices was held at the Urban Redevelopment Centre in Singapore. City planners, academics and architects from around the world discussed the integration of mobility, energy, water and waste disposal into planning practice; the role of educational institutions in the life of a city; and the effects of art, culture and sport on planning strategies.
The exhibition "Treasures of the Aga Khan Museum: Architecture in Islamic Arts" was held at the Asian Civilisations Museum in Singapore. It featured framed paintings and objects from the Aga Khan Museum’s collections. Download the catalogue.
