The Second Annual Aga Khan University Education conference is underway in Kampala (Uganda) to improve, innovate and change. The Ministry of Education and sports has come up with a Teacher policy that will focus on the profession. The Vice Provost, Prof Kweku Bentil who spoke at the Education conference, says the era of teaching a 19th-century curriculum to 21st Century learners is no longer acceptable. Experts at the conference noted how the desire among the younger generations to become teachers had declined, and that the current trend of teaching to pass exams should be replaced with a competency-based curriculum.
