A study undertaken by a group of medical institutions, including the School of Nursing and Midwifery at The Aga Khan University in Nairobi, Kenya, examined the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetsS) in healthy adults in Botswana. An unprecedented high MetS prevalence was revealed among perceived to be healthy adults, with women at a higher risk. This public health concern creates an opportunity to establish evidence of risk factors and develop guidelines and strategies with appropriate public health measures to prevent and control MetS.
