AKTC has been active in Zanzibar since 1989. Our aim is to regenerate historic areas to spur social, economic and cultural development. We have assisted the Zanzibar Stone Town Conservation and Development Authority in strategic conservation planning, restoring a number of key buildings on the waterfront, such as the “Old Dispensary” and the Old Customs House.

AKTC has renovated 11 buildings in Stone Town
The former Ex-Telecom building, deserted since the 1930s, was converted and now operates as a hotel. AKTC cooperated with the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar to restore the Forodhani Park as part of a comprehensive programme for seafront rehabilitation in Stone Town. The project was completed in 2009. Restoring the city’s major urban open space has improved the quality of civic life for Zanzibaris.
