March 2019 - In places where the Aga Khan Water and Sanitation Extension Programme (WASEP) works, people for the first time in their lives have gained convenient and reliable access to clean drinking water. Over the last 20 years, over half a million people have benefited from these water schemes. As a result, the rate of waterborne diseases in these areas has reduced significantly and communities are healthier. Lower healthcare expenditures leave households with more disposable income. Women no longer trek long distances and steep mountain pathways to collect water for their families. Watch this short video, “Droplets of Hope”, which shows the internationally recognised WASEP approach using the case study of a village in Hunza, Pakistan. It presents WASEP’s holistic approach, which puts the community – and women, in particular – at the heart of these life-changing water schemes.
